Pet Crates

Unless the dog is less than ten pounds they must be flown in a pet crate. Pet crates must also be approved by the airline in order for them to fly. Airlines will check to make sure the crate is of adequate size, has proper ventilation, and has a secure door.

The crate must be large enough for the animal to stand up, turn around, and lie down. They permit larger pet crates if desired but those will cost more and a large crate gives the dog room to defecate (which happens when they are nervous.) A crate that is just big enough will also help the dog retain body heat in the cold cargo area.

Ventilation is very important.  All walls of the pet crates must have air holes along the top. The door must securely latch and be in good working condition with no damage. Also the holes on the grate of the door must not be big enough for the dog to stick his nose through; this is for the safety of the crew so the dog can’t bite anyone.
