Dog Run

For pet owners who have limited space a dog run can provide their dog with a place to get some exercise. There are two types of dog runs- a cable run, or an enclosed dog run. Both have advantages and disadvantages but are viable options for those who have space restrictions.

A cable dog run consists of a cable strung from one post or tree to another (anchors on walls can also be used.) A long leash or line is attached to the cable which attaches to the dog’s collar. This enables the dog to run back and forth along the cable. Cable stops can be installed to keep the dog from getting to close to trees or other objects in which he could become tangled on.

An enclosed dog run usually consists of a long, narrow fenced-in area. The area should be four feet wide and at least five times the length of the dog. Dogs can climb fences so the fence should be tall (approximately eight feet.) The surface of the dog run should be shielded so that the dog’s feet are protected.
