Keeping whippet puppy entertained? |
We recently got a lovely blue whippet *****, she isn't vaccinated yet so she isn't allowed out on breeder's orders. Work on some basic obedience training. Mental stimulation is a great workout as well! my only idea is the ball game if you can't walk him yet but for a whippet to get tired you would have to do it while tie a short length of string to its tail and attach a coloured sock, and watch the fun. take a treat and have her watch you put it under a blanket, then let her go and say get it, do this a couple times, then put a treat behind a chair, do the same, get it to the point where when you say "get it" she will start looking for treats, soon you can go into a room hide a bunch of treats, let her into the room say "get it" then leave her in there untill she finds all of the treats. it is a lot of fun for the dog. I agree with Mutt Mommy...no reason you can't start training now! Teach her whatever you can think of - not just obedience commands but tricks, too. A cheap, disposable toy could be a plastic bottle. If you wish you can fill it with food pellets, this should keep your little whippet busy for a while. My whippets are around ten years old but they still enjoy a good chew on a plastic bottle! |
