Whippet pets? |
are whippet good pet for apartment if take for regular runs and play time? sure but they are running dogs. whippets (just like greyhounds) need run time..but otherwise are great couch potatos. A whippet is a wonderful friend to have. They do need extra warmth and attention, as they can be a bit anxious and will suffer from separation anxiety if you are gone a lot. Make sure he knows you love him and won't ever leave him, and he should be a great companion. Yes...Whippets make nice city dogs. Regular leash walks, and the occasional run in a dog park are all they need by way of exercise ( other than maybe some games in your apartment...nice thing about whippets, they don't make a big ruckus playing!) Lovely dogs, though a bit fragile...get one from a reputable breeder that will provide references from past buyers and his/her veterinarian, and that has a good breeding program with the necessary genetic testing done on the dams and sires. Be very careful with that...Whippets became a "fashionable" breed, and a lot of BYB's/ puppy mills are cranking out very poor dogs. ( and an unhealthy whippet is a vets nightmare and usually becomes a dead whippet.!) I would consider whippets in an appartment with caution. the Biggest problem would be if you have the bad fortune to get a sepration anxity dog that wails when you are gone (a whippets shreak can peal paint) fortunataly they are usually quiet. definitely, whippets make wonderful apartment dogs. my boyfriend and i have one, and we live in an apartment in the city. They are the perfect apartment dogs! They are clean and quiet inside the house. Whippets, like any other dog (and humans) need exercise. The good news is that a whippet is a sprinter, not a long distance runner and will be satisfied with a full speed run once or twice a day, then he will be happy to settle on your sofa for the rest of the day. |
