How is the Pembroke Welsh Corgi breed of dog?

Hi. We are about to buy a Pembroke Welsh Corgi puppy next week. Someone suggested us that welsh corgi makes the best dog of all. However, i do not know anything at all about this breed and don't even know how they look like or what kind of a dog it will be. i want to learn about welsh corgis, but i'm too busy and lack the time for research. So i ask here, to tell me briefly about this breed -- if its a suitable family dog, or if its agressive, rough, etc etc. Also does a puppy need to be supervised all the time, or can it be left alone for some periods of time too? i have never owned a dog before.

I love all kinds of dogs and heard of a lot of them.
I have also heard a welshi corgi. I have researched them before too.
uh.. I think I remember they are mostly used..to... I forgot.
But they are very friendly dogs and like most dogs.
They have short hair and I think like most short haired dogs, dont shed. Thats about all I know..

My daughter was bit in the face by a corgi about 3 years ago.She now has a scar from the bottom of her nostril to the bottom of her lip.

They can be snappy, since they were used to nip at the heels of cattle when herding them. Not all of them are like this though, you just need to teach them not to bite from the time they are a puppy. Puppies do need a lot of supervision, if you don't have enough time you can always buy a young dog, maybe a year old or so. As with every breed, individual dogs are different, so you want to interact with the dog before buying one.

I have two Corgis, and also foster rescue dogs. Corgis are great dogs if you spend enough time with them, give them lots of exercise, and train them from puppy-hood. They are stubborn, bossy, strong willed and shed lots. They were bred to herd sheep and cattle, so they will be top dog if you are not.

A Corgi puppy can chew you out of house and home if not watched, so I would suggest a confined area such as an X-pen, bathroom or laundry room when you are not home. Puppies can be kept in crates for short periods of time, but I personally don't believe in the "dog in a box" way of raising puppies. I think it causes more problems than it solves.

Most reputable breeders will not sell a Corgi puppy to a home with small children largely because of the nipping and herding. If properly socialized and trained, a Corgi puppy will make a wonderful family dog.
