Does anyone own a saluki, i want one but dont know much about possible health problems? |
I love the look of them and know about the grooming issues and exercise issues but i cant find any info on the health issues. Are there none? Or are they just not that well known as a breed to document? I have trained and dealt with salukis in the past, i was just wondering about health problems and therefore possible preventative measures. I didnt know about the possible eye problems tho, thank you. Salukis, like all the sight hounds, are arguably the healthiest of any breed. There has been progressive retinal atrophy, hypothyroidism and, very rarely, hip dysplasia in the breed. They, like most other sight hounds, are sensitive to anesthetics and barbiturates, but nowadays vets are aware of that. They, like the other sight hounds, are sensitive dogs, so if you're the type of person who actually likes Cesar Milan's methods, this is not the dog for you. search the saluki club of america..... start by going to AKC.ORG read all about the saluki there and get other contacts from there as well |
