Obedience training a Saluki?

I'm wondering how well Salukis respond to obedience training. Do they have enough of an attention span and a desire to please their master to be trained well? Or, do they basically want to do their own thing, get bored with training, and just want to run and chase things? Thanks for your input!

Saluki are really smart dogs. They are considered the fastest dog in the world, but you never see them in dog races - because as soon as they realize they will never catch the rabbit, they quit. They are considered the fastest animal in the world over a 3 mile course.
Salukis have a kind of 'cat-like' personality. They don't jump up on their owners and go crazy when the owner gets home. In fact they may or may not even get up at all. They always seem to be analyzing situations. They can be trained, but it's tougher than other dogs.

Salukis can do Obedience - but the loos concentration after a 10-15 minutes training - and you must work very hard to motivate them, and newer make negative learning.
As a owner you have a lot of fun 鈥?But you instructor might go ballistic :-))

They are a sighthound, so therefore more independent in nature, they can be trained but it has to be rewarding to them inorder to give them to incentive to want to do. With sighthounds they are very sensitive so no harsh training methods should be used, they tend to respond well to positive reinforcement and clicker training works well with them, and keep sessions short so they do not get bored.

And do not let people tell you that most sighthounds can not be trained to sit,
He can sit properly when food is involved but in this picture sat more on his hip http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y53/mle...
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y53/mle... as puppies they sit quite often like any other dog, just as they mature and hip muscle develop and legs get longer it become more uncomfortable for them

They also can be trained to be assistance dogs and therapy dogs, actually due to their gentle natures and height they are well suited for the work , one of my foster dogs became a certified therapy dog in less than 6 weeks http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y53/mle...
