What is the average cost of a Saluki?(puppy)?

What is the average cost of a Saluki?(puppy)?

Probably you are looking in the $1,000 range, give or take. Find a breeder through the national clubs by going through www.akc.org. Do NOT simply find one on the internet unless you plan on going the breeder's facility to check it out. Expect a reputable breeder to quiz you and check you out - just as you will them. Be patient and honest and prepared to wait for your new family member - it is worth it. Saluki's are lovely dogs and can live healthy, long lives if they come from good lines. Good luck!

Why do you need to buy a purebred? There are thousands of dogs put to death every day due to overpopulation. Please rescue one of them, instead of supporting the breeders.

Fairly pricey as I recall.

FIgure $900 for a pet puppy and up to $2000 for a show prospect.

Go here for information about the breed and breeders:

This is the National Breed CLub recognized by the AKC.

The breeders listed on the club site all abide by the Breeder's Code of Ethics and are concerned about producing sound healthy dogs so they do all the health exams for hereditary conditions before breeding and stand behind their puppies - we are talking written contract here. They are committed to their breed and have been doing this for years - it is not some backyard breeder who decides "gee wouldn't it be fun to have a litter..."

To contact breeders, use the email link at the bottom of the page on the second link.

Now they also have breed rescue that the club runs.

Seriously consider adopting a dog that needs rehomed.

The rescues go to great trouble to match the dog to the home and are always available for help and advice about the dog. You get the breed you want and are spared peed on newspaper, teething and the other not-so-fun things with puppies.

It depends. Saluki pups are very hard to place and if you are a good home for a Sighthound you may be able to get one for very little. However, if cost is your main concern, good luck.

Go to some field trials to meet breeders. Find out where at asfa.com
