Where can I find a Saluki(dog breed)?

And is there any store that sells them?

Check online for a rescue club for them! There may be one in your state. Try to get one there. So many dogs need rescued! Check out humane societies or go to www.petfinder.com. Or consider adopting a shelter dog, they make great pets and KNOW that you rescued them from being killed. They are eternally grateful!

your best bet would be to go to the AKC's web site or a similar site to find a breeder

Please never buy a dog from a pet store as they come from puppy mills.

There is a Saluki breed club that you can get info and ask lots of questions. Not sure where you live but here are two links:

In the US - http://www.salukiclub.org/
Canada - http://www.salukicanada.com/main.htm

Please don't ever buy a puppy from a store. They're bred and sold for profit only...health, temperament, type, etc doesn't matter when it's all about the dollar. Pet store puppies come from puppy mills, do a search and you'll soon see what I mean.

Research the breed, see if one would fit your lifestyle and you can properly care/provide for one. You can start on the net, books, etc...but talk to owners and breeders too. I'll try to find a link to a saluki club. Get in touch with them and they can refer you to a rescue or breeder...a reputable breeder.

I have two sighthounds, they're wonderful, but like all dogs...not for everyone. Good luck!

First of all you should NEVER buy a puppy from a pet store, and you probably will not find one at a petstore anyway.

The website listed has a few available, and you could also try google and going to a local dog show to find breeders.

Wow! Check out all of the Salukis here! > http://search.petfinder.com/search/searc...
Just put in your own zip code to find the ones nearest you.

Check with your local Kennel Club or, if you don't have one, you might try contacting your local vets. They may know of a breeder.
Please don't buy from a local pet shop. They don't guarentee their sales where a good breeder will. Should something happen to or with your dog (such as a genetic flaw or disorder not apparent at birth, they should give you a replacement or your money back. Salukis are expensive!

never buy from a petstore. never buy from a breeder where you can't see where the pups were born and raised and at least one parent. if someone tells you they can't show you one parent or where the pups are raised, run do not walk away from this person. get in contact with the local breed chapter from your area. research about this breed and make sure it is the correct dog for you, then find a reputable breeder. this breeder will screen their breeding stock for health and temperment problems and will match you to the best pup for you. good luck. and NEVER BUY FROM A STORE! unless you want a lifetime of heartache for you and the dog.

answer about petfinder and rescue is OK if the pedigree is not overly important. If you want to show or breed your dogs, I would go to the AKC.org website and follow their links to either the breed club or breeders for that breed. Follow a few links and you should be able to find a breeder in your area is that is both reputable and conscientious. To me this matters because a good breeder of a recognized breed will produce puppies of a very predictable type and temperment. You know what breed you want, so go for a good example that will be what you want.

Good luck.

Google puppy mills and look at the pictures that come up and then you will see where puppies at pet stores come from. You should not support petstores who support puppy mills and you can not just buy a dog the same way you would buy a pair of shoes. Look on petfinder.com or a site that helps find homes for rescued dogs. There are a lot of shelters that have purebread dogs.
