Can you train a Saluki to run along side a horse on a long lead?

ya but no leash therse a good chance it will get caught in the horses hoves and trip

yep

I'm sure it's possible, but not worth the risk (& it would never be risk free). All it would take is one little mistake and all of you could be hurt...or worse. What if the dog spotted a small animal, the horse spooked, etc? I had a horse (Arab) and I have sighthounds, but it's not something I would try with any of them. Personally, I wouldn't mix any dog on a leash with horseback riding.

I don't see why not. That is a very fast breed of dog that loves to run. I'd just be very careful not to get the dog or horse tripped up. They would both have to be very well trained! All the best;~)

Wow, I don't have the answer to this question, but I have to say that watching a Saluki run along side a horse would be absolutely beautiful!

i would start with a puppy. but if you have the will power... and the energy... you can teach any animal to do anything. a dog will do what you say with paitence and time.

Course your hound alongside your horse? of COURSE! on a lead?? NEVER! There is too much chance of the lead tangling in the horsed hooves, and hazarding all three of you. You need to get the horse and dog comfortable around each other first, then do padoc-work before you do anything out of the arena. Make sure your Saluki doesn't chase the horse as opposed to coursing alongside. Work the horse on a lunge-line in the paddoc with the dog in there to test that chasing does not happen, and if it does, corect it immediately. Saluki's were BRED to be coursing hounds, so they have the kegs and lungs to do what you want. Having ridden horse-and-hound, I know the pleasure in having one's four-legged friends all together with you.

well saluki's are a very sensitive breed so it might not want to be trained 2 do that & ther coud b a hazard with the lead coz if u riddin 2wardz a tree the horse coud go 1 way & the dog coud go the other & u can just yank the lead 2 make it go ur way coz the breed iz fragile.
& the dog might want 2 b nearer 2 u and run quite close to the horse & get trampled or the horse mite not like the dog runnin near it either

i dont think it would be advisable
