Looking for a specific kind of dog! Need breed sudjestions!!?

Ok my family wants a dog that sheds little to on, has no oder, and doesn't bark a lot. Yes, I know, a LOT of requirements!!! I have found pleanty of breeds online but I do not want it tobe small or a toy. We live in a townhouse so it can't be big either!Medium size is fine and so is a bit larger. Also a breed that will be ok with staying alone 7 hours 5 days a week! A saluki was my choice at one point...but living in a townhouse I do not think it will get the proper amount of exercise and will not be happy! I want it to be an elegant dog like the saluki! Or if you think my chances are better witha cat please let me know!! I'm desperate here! :]

Your chances are better with a cat

If you are not home all day, a dog is not for you. A cat would be better.

Dogs are very playful, and they get lonely a lot. So if you might leave them alone for 7 hours five days a week, then that might be a problem. But with cats, they usually just like to sit around doing nothing. So I think you would be better off with a cat.

Here, take this breed selector test: http://www3.dogbreedinfo.com/search.htm

Good luck!

soft coated wheaten terrier
meets all of those requirements-doesn't shed, doesn't bark (or little bit), doesn't smell (of course if taken care of properly), and is about 35lbs. they are sweet and are great family dogs. they like it better when u r home, but mine does fine when im at school 7 or more hours 5 days a week. and when u get home, they give you a wheaten greetin that makes u happy just to be alive

the only drawback of this breed is their high maintence coat, but if kept short, it's fine

A dog is alot of work and it takes months for them to be able to hold their potty time for 7 hours. I can think of several breeds that would be good for you but I think a cat may be a better choice for you. I have two dogs and one cat and i promise my cat is alot easier to manage than my dogs. Your living situation won't allow your puppy much out door time and that means he will have to release his energy indoors. Which will probably be your shoes!! I would think hard before I made my choice.

For these types of situations i recommend Westies! proper name being, a West Highland White Terrier. Big name for a dog huh?

They are a non- shed dog, and hypoallergenic.

They arent little , but arent big, and there is nothing fragile about them. they are very sturdy.

But before you do pick a breed Look it up compleatly. Go to AKC. Org. There they have a very accurate discription of the dog, pictures, and if you decide on that breed, they even have reputable breeder Information.

Good Luck

This might seem counterintuitive, but take a close look at a greyhound. Despite their racing heritage, they are actually couch potatoes. Many available through greyhound rescue.

If you are set on small to mid-sized, Whippets or Italian Greyhounds again would make a good choice. Typical price for these is $800.00 to $1,000.00. Don't know how many available through rescue.

Consider a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, they have "hair" not fur, non-allergenic, and are a mid size dog. Dogs need exercise and puppies, especially, need attention. Cats are very independent.

Schnauzer do not shed at all and does not bark alot. I don't know if they have any oder.

I don't think you should get a dog because 7 hours for a medium sized dog in a house by itself is a long time. I just recently got a Coton de Tulear a year ago and I fell inlove with this breed. It is a toy dog, about the same size as a Bichon Frise but they have such personality and can run for hours. They have the attitude and personality of a golden retriever. They don't shed and i personally find that they are ugly when they are older with long hair so we keep ours short and its adorable. They are very smart so it'd be easy to train. But the dog your looking for would need a lot more attention then what you are able to give it so i'd stick with a cat.

pomeranian or a multi poo.. both are small, don't shed a lot...neithe rneed a lot of attentoin. poms are apt. made dogs.. perect for you.. and when brushed and groomed right their thick coat sheds little to non at all... they also don't cost too much either! good luck !
