My hermit crab has shed his exoskeleton, but hasn't moved in 2-3 weeks. He smell fresh. Help?

He hasn't eaten his exoskeleton either. Is he dead?

He hasn't walked around because I smoothed out the sand to see if he is leaving trails at night. Also he has molted on top of the sand. There is no movement. I am scared. I will die if he dies. Please help me. I can't take this mystery anymore. HELP is there anyone in kentucky that can come over to check for me. I'm too nervous to see. I don't smell anything. I am in a panic here

It can take a crab a long time to get back to normal. Mine will vanish for over a month then come back good as new.
If it was a surface moult these things are trickier. If he is hanging out of the shell or out of his shell all together and not moving this is bad.

If you are smelling a rotten fish smell then he is dead.

If he is hiding in his shell ignoring you and everyone around you...that's pretty normal.

Try putting some natural honey or peanut butter in a tiny shell next to him to try to encourage him to eat.

We have hermit crabs, and we used to have a really big one. He did the exact same thing, and he died a few days later. So I'm not sure if there's anything you could do. I guess you could take it to the vet... ? Sorry he/she isn't doing great ~ 鈾illieBobJoe鈾?/div>

It might be dead? Easy way would be to poke it, pick it up and see if it does anything? Unless it's out in the wild with danger at every corner, it really won't move much in its cage. Or maybe it moves when you sleep and goes back to its resting place during the day.

But your question made me smile a little, because without seeing it, can't really confirm its dead or not :P

as shelly said they take a long time to get back to normal dont worry just keep good care of him he needs a lot of special care so keep good care of him good luck he has good chances of survial
