Leopard gecko care!!! PLZ HELP?

Ok so my mom told me that were going to get me a Leopard gecko so I went to Ace hardware to get sand because a site told me that sand is safe for a leopard gecko but now other sites are saying that it can cause impaction and get stuck in its intestines...The sand is play sand, its orange and its very soft a sticks really good but its not grains...can you tell me if this is safe for the gecko? I havent gotten the gecko yet.

Do not use any sand for baby or juvie leopard geckos. The most common substrates for these guys is paper towel when young. When older, you can put them either on sand or ceramic tile. Many people opt for the ceramic tile because it holds the heat in really well and evenly. I disagree with the use of play sand because the intestine of the leopards are moist. Play sand will cause an impaction much faster than the more grainy calcium sands that we pet stores sell. You should never use play sand - ever. I recommend ceramic tile that you can purchase at any home improvement store and have cut to your tank size. When it gets dirty simply pull the tile out and run it through the dishwasher. There is never a need to replace it unless is cracks.

you should buy sand from a petstore but if it's a baby gecko use paper towels

If your leo is a baby or juvenile, I would recommend using paper towels or a reptile carpet.
When your leo is an adult, you may use sand if you would like, but most people prefer not to.
If you do choose to use sand for your adult leo, make sure that you only use playground sand, and not calcium or pet store sand!

it works for adult leopard geckos but not babies cuz it will cause impaction

No, I wouldn't recommend using any kind of sand or particle substrate, anything that can be swallowed. As already mentioned it can cause impaction, especially in younger geckos, which can be fatal. Leos like licking things to investigate them and can accidentally ingest smaller objects quite easily.

Rough ceramic tile is great bottom material for leos. You can get it for fairly cheap at pretty much any hardware/home improvement store. They will usually cut it to your specifications as well, so it fits snugly in your tank.

Tile retains heat quite well, which means the gecko will gets lots of nice belly heat, and it's fairly easy to clean. Leos usually go in a certain area, so you could just put some paper towel down there to make cleaning even easier.

You need to go to the pet shop and get the sand that is made for them, I have 2 of them and they are fine in sand, you just need to have the proper kind.

For baby geckos sand is bad, cause it can get blockages in it's intestines. try using fish tank pebbles, there are lots of colours to make the tank look more colourful or (when more mature) to make the tank more natural u can use playground sand or maltch (eg. Eucalyptus maltch which gives off a good fragrance.

defiantly a good question you have to consider many things how old is the gecko?? is she coming right from the pet store or from a person..Paper towel is what i would recommend for a juvinelle as it gets older you can find sand IN PET STORES here in canada the brand is EXO TERRA its natural desert sand that has NO added dies or chemicals itll create a natural desert like environment for your leopard gecko and it is an excellent heat conductor and its also a suitable egg-layer substrate but sand isnt good for young lizards gecko anythings so ask about the age you can use many different things paper towels reptile carpet i went to home depot and bought the grass like carpet you keep outside and is on one side of my beardies cage with the water and food and i use sand and soil for the other side but my beardies two years so i dont know theres different ways to go but i wouldnt recommend what you got if it wasnt from a petstore good luck leopard geckos are neat and beautiful geckos!!
