Help with feed leopard geckos pinky mice? |
I have some leopard geckos breeding and they have time and time again refused pinky mice I started buying them live from a pet store and they would not eat them I would offer them pinky mice for days and they would just smell then leave so I went out and bought mice and started breeding them for pinkys I thought maybe my leopard geckos didnt like all thouse people touching their food but they still just walk up to the mice smell then stair for a bit then leave the mice is their any tricks to get them to start eatting the pinkys any advice would be greatly appresiated thanks Dave I am going to have to disagree with the other posters. If you are breeding geckos, pinkies are a GREAT way to fatten them up. My leopards savagely attack them! As far as them not being a natural food, what do you suppose WILD geckos do when they encounter newborn rodents? Dave, I don't think there is a way to 'force' them to eat the pinky mice. Just like people, they have foods they like better than others. Of my breeding pair, only the female will eat them. The male never has and refuses to even think about it Does it move??? if it isn't moving so much then try to wiggle it in front of their face if she is anything like mine and the pinky is its not moving allot she wont eat it! Also make sure that they are hungry sometimes...that's all it is! If she just shed or something you know how that works...they wont eat for a few days! Other then that make sure whatever you feed her is smaller then her head, If she's smaller then she may feel overwhelmed if the pinky mouse is too big! Why do you want to feed a leopard gecko pinkies??They're refusing them because they dont want them. They shouldn't play part in a leopard geckos diet and you shouldn't be trying to make them. They need appropriate sized crickets, locust ,wax worms and meal worms along with suitable fruit and veg, dusted with calcium powder 2-3 times a week. There are hundreds of care sheets on the net which will tell you what to use The other answers are true but. I feed my male gecko pinkies once a week. My females are to small to handle the pinkies but my male is 10 1/2". That is the only reason i feed him pinkies. For small Geckos I would stick with crickets, mealworms and the occasional waxworm. No reason to feed them pink mice . It is not something they eat in the wild.If you are really in need of them getting massive boost of protein . I would try to give them super worms or feeder roaches, much higher in protein than mice . ( too much fat in mice anyway). If they don't want to eat the pinkies, there's no way to make them. They don't require pinkies in their diet anyway. |
