Ragdoll and regular cat?

i have a regular kitty who's pretty friendly but then again can have some mean cat qualities ..i was wondering that if i got a ragdoll kitty for him as a friend the ragdoll would lose his ragdoll qualities and would just start copying the other cat?? ..does that happen?

This one is right down my alley... I have bred and shown Ragdolls for over ten years. Ragdolls are NOT Jesus in a cat suit. They are very sweet and loving cats, but do react typically as any other cat. I have been bitten twice by my Ragdolls, once a boy was loose and had got on my other boy's cage, when I picked him up to take him back to his room he bit my face. Too much testosterone, whole males are stressed by other whole males, my bad, I should have been better prepared. The other time one of my girls got outside and when I picked her up she was spooked and bit my hand. It happens.

I'm not trying to turn you away from the breed, but Ragdolls are cats and will display typical catlike behaviors. Unless your cat is very aggressive, a Ragdoll will be fine. If he is very aggressive, I would not recommend another cat period. Most often though the cats will adjust to each other. I have ten Ragdolls and three moggies (random bred cats), all get along (with the exception of the studs [not neutered, whole], they hate each other and want to fight each other to be king of the harem, hence they must be kept seperate). They are a wonderful breed and you will never regret your choice. Best wishes.

p.s. It is a myth that a Ragdoll can't defend itself against another cat, trust me I've had first hand experience. My two boys (due to a mistake on my part) happened to have a chance to get up close and personal one night, that fight was as awful as anything you would have seen in a pit bull ring. It was horrific. It took a lot of maneuvering and almost 20 minutes to get them seperated without being eaten alive myself. These cats are from old Mourningdove and Petil Lu lines, they are sweet, good natured championed cats. That fight was not a flaw in their breeding, just further proof they are cats and are going to react as any other cat in most given situations.

well you should spay him, if u already haven't cause it can make them really good and happy

All cats have their own personalities and characters.
A cat may mimic another in some (few) things, but each are their own individuals.
So no worries.
Gd. luck.

I have two ragdoll kittens and ragdolls can not defend their selves. I don't think they will copy the other cat because they are sweet and loving and act like dogs. But it might look up to the other cat.
The ragdoll may get hurt so watch out.

Mykrodot knows her stuff! I own a ragdoll, and am friends with his breeder. While they are, on the whole, quite laid back & gentle cats, they can & will defend themselves when necessary, and occasionally have spiteful moods themselves where they bite or scratch a little harder than they know they should.
If your current cat is really badly behaved, it might pay to discipline him a little to get him into line before introducing another cat of any type. A water spray bottle is the best training device, and should be used sparingly when the cat is in the act of committing an offence. Give a voice command of "no" or whatever you choose, at the same time that a quick squirt is given. If you squirt the cat in the face area, the reaction should be swift, and normally cats learn from this method very quickly.
Once you get your new cat, you will just need to be very observant and supervise any contact they have for a little while until you're confident they're going to be ok together. It's always a good idea to try to match two cats' personalities - so if you have a hyper cat that's really playful & active, it's best to get another that's similar, or else you'll end up with one cat being driven crazy by the other for play.
Give it some thought before you commit to getting a second cat, and perhaps try some training & discipline with your own cat to get some rules worked out first.
