Ragdoll Cat, A Good Choice?

Hello everyone, Kevin here, and I have a question for you Ragdoll cat owners out there...

I was reading around sites, seeing how gentle, sweet, kind, etc a ragdoll is....

The thing is, my cat died yesterday, and I miss having my best friend, so this is kind of what I am looking for...

So here is my questions...

1. I read on 1 single site, 4 people commented that their ragdolls are mean, bite, and hate to be held, is this true?

2. I'm a lap animal person, will ragdolls sit in my lap alot? Or do they dislike it?

3. Do Ragdolls hate to be held/handled? I don't mean in a vicious manner, but in a gentle manner.

Thank you, and if you have any other points and details to add please tell them, thank you :)

P.S. - Does anyone know ragdoll breeders in the Cleveland area of ohio? Or anywhere around it? Thanks!

Also, grooming isn't a problem ^^ Neither is shedding, I can take care of that with no problem

I have 2 ragdolls and they are the sweetest cats. One is 14 and he rules the roost, the only problem I have with him is he never wants to get off my lap. The other one is 4 and we can never have company without him wanting attention from our guests. They also get along well with my other cats.

Ragdoll cats are absolutely beautiful.

The breed of cat won't tell you what its personality is - any more than the breed of a dog guarantees a placid or mean dog.

Environment and handling make the difference.

Can't help with a breeder but definitely get a Ragdoll - they are stunning cats and can be stolen so make sure you get its ear tatooed with an ID number - very quick process.

It depends on the cat's attitude. I believe the 1st question that you asked is wrong, though. My friend has 2 ragdolls and both love being handled by humans. So that answers the first three questions. The only annoying thing about it is(I mean annoying for humans) they apparently shed their fur a lot. If you wash your cat, I'd recommend blow drying it and giving it a good brush afterwards to get rid of the dry/loose fur so it doesn't shed as much.

Now, for the breeders.... google some websites and see what you come up with. I found this: http://www.kittysites.com/breeder_oh.sht...
It may be helpful, if not, do a little research in phone books or ask your local pet store.

Enjoy & good luck.

I had 2 Ragdolls (female), my aunt had a male. To address your questions:

1. Never did my or my aunts cats bite anyone!! I had 2 young children in the house and they loved to be carried around. They literally would "flop" in my boys arms.

2. They loved cuddling!! Unlike my tortoiseshell...she was a meany that hated lap sitting!

3. See number 1 LOL...They were the sweetest cats I ever had!!

The biggest problem was grooming. You need to groom pretty much daily, unless you don't mind the hair!!

I would check your local humane society, private foster cat shelters, before you purchase a pedigree, unless you plan on showing the cat. I found both of mine at the humane society in Toledo, Ohio (one was 2 years old, the other 4 years old). Give it some time..keep looking for one...DAILY!! They do not last long at a shelter, they are an awesome cat!!!

Hi Kelvin. So sorry on the loss of your cat. I have 2 ragdolls. They have the most gentle temperament and are totally in-door cats. They are not agressive thus will totally not be suited to even be brought outdoors. As their name suggest, they go totally limp when held. Let me give you a very honest answer to your questions. All cats have their own personality and character. For example, my male is very vocal. He will talk to you, call to you but is a little timid and will run away to hide at the slightest weird noise or strangers coming into the house. He does not really like to be carried and will try to struggle when held but will never scratch. Each time I'm sitting on the sofa, he'll only jump up and come to me if he wants to or feel lonely. My female only calls to me whenever she feels like it. She is very sweet, will curl up at my foot or beside me whenever I'm on the sofa. She'll come to my room and lie down with me or just look at me whenever I'm putting on my make-up. They're very affectionate cats but cats are very character animals thus, they'll only do stuffs only when they want to. Ragdolls are a very good choice for you. Do consider and if you're interested, I'll email a few of their photos to you.
