Ragdoll Cats?

I am wanting to add a kitten that will mature into a big fluffy gorgeous affectionate cat. I would love to find one at a shelter or Spca but can't find sealpoint (unless lanky siamese crossed) and be certain of the size at maturity. Is it worth investing all that money for a ragdoll? Has anyone been disappointed after spending that much on a cat?

We just got a siamese blue point and ragdol cross at the shelter. He is very FLUFFY and big footed like a ragdoll and he plays catch like a dog. We love him. He's not lanky at all. Try petfinder.com that's how we found him.

Keep looking.

You don't always find the perfect cat the first time you head to a shelter.

Trust me, if you wait, a purebreed Ragdoll will wind up at the shelter in no time.

Also, picking a cat by looks won't guarantee it gets along with the resident cat. It would be awful if you spent all the money, only to have them fight.

Instead, consider fostering. They'll (one at a time, if that's what you want) stay with you for however long (until it finds another home) and you and your kitty can "fall in love" with the perfect addition to your home with no regrets.

I've seen a lot of posts on this board from people moaning about behavior problems with their ragdoll cat. I think you are better off with a mixed breed cat.

Please keep searching shelters. Though you may not find exactly what you want, you'll be doing a lot more good by giving a cat a loving home than you would buying a cat that will end up getting cared for no matter what.

I have an amazingly sweet long-haired cat that I adopted from a shelter. Don't give up. :)

Try searching the net for Ragdoll rescues or contact a registered breeder to ask about the possibility of adopting a rescue or retired breeder.

I believe a cat who is properly cared for, no matter its size or fluffiness, will reward you with years of unconditional love.

Give the ASPCA/Humane Society or a local no-kill shelter another look. I'm sure you'll find a new buddy there just waiting to be loved!

I love my Rag doll, he did come from a shelter, so do not give up!!
Another breed to think about would be a Ragamuffin.
Also very good with the kids

My daughter has a ragdoll and the cat is very sweet! She is a very large cat 17lbs last time we weighed her. I don't know what these other people are talking about them being behavior problems! My daughters cat is very lazy. She loves her food. Doesn't play much loves sitting on laps. Loves hugs and kisses. She likes men better than women. Well she does have a temper she acts more like a pit bull kitty when some one wants to make my daughters bed. My daughter is disabled. So her cat hates it when anyone touches anything that belongs to her Mommy.

If you don't mind an older cat - try the breed rescues - not sure where you're located but you can usually find one that is near enough to suffice. go to http://purebredcatbreedrescue.org/ragdol...
and then click on their links for the different ragdoll rescue groups. Follow those links to your own area and see if anything is available. Also you can click thru to www.petfinder.com and put ragdoll in the search category and your zip and you might pull up some rescues that way.

But to answer your other question - I've never regretted paying full price for a purebred cat - you more often than not, will get a lot of help and info from the breeder and mom and dad to the kitten will be available to meet and see if you like them. It all depends on what you want from your cat. Just remember it's a long term commitment - for the life of the cat or kitten you choose!!

i don't think all Siamese crossed cats are that bad as it all depends on what its crossed with. I rescued my kitten at a few weeks old and he turned out to be a beautiful looking Siamese cat with white underneath and fluffy as anything who fetches like a dog and is so affectionate he has to have company when people are in the house,,,,,,,,,,,,,so i think you should keep looking until you find a kitten that's right to you.....as to me it seems a pet really chooses us not the other way around

i have had 2 ragdolls and they are worth EVERY penny!

I have a ragdoll kitten who is beautiful and affectionate but she's also an insane kitten. As far as affectionate cats - I have 2 Siamese cats who are sisters - well I have one, one of them passed away in August. Anyway, Karma is a 10 year old blue point and she is the most affectionate cat, as was her sister. Siamese get very attached to their people, and are almost like dogs. They follow me around and are just like little people. ;-) Its pretty cool how they "know" me and trust me. They're not fluffy but they are beautiful.
My meezers cost me $250 when I got them 10 years ago -- my raggy was $500! I've always had Siamese and wanted something different - she is so damn cute, and worth every dime.

Most of the purebred cats aren't always located in Shelters but purebred rescues.. There is one called Siamese Rescue that works throughout the united states and is very thorough. I would highly advise reading up on them first off to see if they will be the right match for you. I was brought up with Siamese and they are not a TYPICAL cat.. They have a personality all on their own and resemble children. When they are upset you will certainly know about it. With Ragdolls, they are cute indeed but require everyday grooming. I have seen many end back in shelters as many people like these cats but don't have the patience in the long haul for these special bred cats.. Try this link and see how you go.

Best of luck
