Ragdoll Cat - is all of this normal?

Our gorgeous ragdoll female has just had her 1st birthday. She is not at all docile when she is awake in fact she runs up and down the hallway skidding and doing leaps up the wall when she plays. She will fetch items we throw. When she sleeps it's usually on her back with legs spread out. She won't sit on our lap and doesn't like to be held much, but does stay close by and sleeps at the end of our bed. She also follows me from room to room. She loves getting into the shower after we have used it and rolls around in the water. I'm wondering if she will become a lap cat as she gets older as I really thought ragdolls would be lap cats.

Cats are not typical and they don't always fall into the characteristics of the breed. Your cat is being herself, and that is okay. Just love the cat for who she is. Cats have their own personalities and that is alright! Your cat seems like a winner to me!

Unfortunately, not all ragdolls are docile, and the "limp body" idea might be an average thing with ragdolls, but there are exceptions to every rule.

My cat sleeps on her back with her legs splayed out everywhere, and when she was little, we used to lay her on her back and comb her belly, so she just got used to it.

The following from room to room is just a sign of affection, and I think you should be happy with such attention from a cat! The rolling in the shower after the water is normal too, but not from ragdolls. The Turkish Van cats are known for loving water, and perhaps your ragdoll has a touch of Tu.V. in her.

As she gets older, she will calm down and not be so hyper. Perhaps you can entice her to become a lap cat by feeding her treats on your lap when she wakes up from naps or when she's about to settle down for one.

Ive just bought a ragdoll kitten too she is 6 months old now and she is a complete nutta too when she is in a hypo mood. She follows me every where and loves getting in the shower when i get out, she also sits at the shower door and watch me the whole time. Everything sounds the same except that she doesn't like to be held. Mine constantly gets on my lap if im sitting down and wants to be cuddled, if i dont pat her she rubs her self on me. But i have been told by my breeder that they aren't true raggies until the are 3 years old that when you can pick them up and do anything to them, so there still is hope. Good luck!!!

She might mellow with time.

I have two Ragdolls....one doesn't like to be held at all, the other one has to be near me and on me all the time!
