My ragdoll kittens eyes?

I got a ragdoll kitten about 2 weeks ago, and his left eye looks red and a bit infected. And it keeps getting crusty. Does anyone know any home remedies I can try as I cannot go to the vet until next week as my car is getting fixed. I heard some like; Clean his eye with warm boiled water and salt and someone also said to put some vaseline. Are these true?

You can call a vet for help.

I have two Ragdolls myspace. Though I'm not too sure what you should do about his eyes. If I were you, I would call the breeder and ask. :]

yep i was going to say dissolve salt in boiling water, wait for it to cool and then swill it with that (good luck!)

I hope that sorts it out, it should do if its nothing to serious thats caused it, at least it will give it a sooth until you can go to the vets
hope your kitten gets better soon
:) x
edit to add:
Nanny - salt water is good for infection and to sooth, it will sting for a moment but its the best thing for it (apart from propper vet treatment) honestly.

wow...noooo. warm boiled water and salt??? when was the last time you had salt water in your eyes? it's an irritant. and Vaseline will do nothing but goop it all up and look disgusting. you need antibiotics...sorry, only the vet will do when it comes to eyes. (btw, cat eyes are very sensitive...they can go blind if you use the wrong medication)

My kitty had that too and it turned out to be pink eye. I think those things do help a little, but I would call the vet and see if they can make some kind of payment arrangement with a check or a small deposit or something. Be sure to wash your hands as well.

Try some natural tears from the drug store.

Try this. Doesn't this lady know a lot about ragdoll kittens? I think she does. She has one. She probably has more than one! Maybe you should ask her! Look her up! Get her number! Call her! Ask her about your ragdoll kitten! Yea! It will work. Trust me. I know it will. I told you step-by-step! I know what to do. I know you should call that lady. Ask her! I know she knows a lot about ragdoll kittens. She is an expert! Ha! Yea! An expert! Her ragdoll kitten won a cat show! She will tell you what to do! Her ragdoll kitten won a cat show. So that tells you that she knows a lot. Trust me. I know. I don't know much about ragdoll kittens. Sorry! Bye! I hope you call that lady. She will know what to do. Trust me! I know. I know what to do. I know you should call the lady! 'K!

No. He may have pink eye. Ask a friend to drive you for the safety of your cat.

Only use warm water with salt to dissolve the crusties, especially if his eye(s) are sealing shut. Contrary to what some believe, a little salt in tap water makes it much more soothing to the eye but too much salt can be damaging. Test it on yourself first.
Vaseline is a good short-term preventive measure until you can get him to the vet. It will keep his eyes from sealing shut which leads to all kinds of nasty complications. But what he really needs is Teramycin ointment which your vet will prescribe.
This is a very common problem in kittens as more than half of all kitten are born with feline herpes and/or chlamydia. No, not the same as in humans and you can't get it from a cat if you tried. It affects the eyes and respiratory system. It kills 30% of kittens and a smaller percentage can lose one or both eyes. Don't panic! It's easy to treat when recognized and besides, blind cats are cool. I know cause I have one. He lost one eye due to herpes-related pink-eye and the other one can see only light and the movement of large objects. But he doesn't know he's blind. He acts and plays as normal as any other.
In short, do get it treated properly right away. You really need more than home remedies to fight back a herpes flare-up.

NO SALT!, NO VASELINE!!! if u like doing that put that into your own eyes and see if u still ike it!!!

use warm water with a camomile-extraxt / mixture! tell someone to take you to the vet!, take a taxi, use the bus! get a redlight!

We had this issue with some kittens of ours once, we always took a plain teabag with black tea in it and ran it under some warm water, the warmth from the bag calms the kitten as well as the small amount of tea seemed to break up the crust and calms down the inflation as well. We would do that about 2 or three times a day. We didn't rub the bag across the eye, but we would hold the Kitten to make it feel safe and calm and then would hold the teabag on the eye while doing that. It helped a fair amount and it made the kitten feel safe.
