Any experience with the Ocicat breed?

I would like to soon add to my family, and have discovered recently a spectacular new breed of cat called the Ocicat. Im not after goolgle links or anything like that (I have found many myself) but i am after anyone who might have had experience with the breed. Have you found the cat to be a wonderful house companion? have you noticed any health problems? any info on experience would be wonderful - Thanx.

I have a 3 year old male Ocicat that I got from a local breeder who has since retired. He's the best cat I've ever had. He's loving, affectionate, loves people and attention and is very entertaining. He was diagnosed with asthma about a year ago and it's usually pretty well controlled with prednisone pills. When I get another cat I'd most definitly get another Ocicat.
I see that a previous answer referred to the Ocicat as an exotic cat with some wild blood. That is not accurate as the Ocicat is not an exotic nor has wild blood. The Ocicat was originally created when mixing a Siamese and an Abyssinian, neither of which is exotic.
Hope this helps to answer your question.

I was looking into Ocicats today and thinking about getting one myself. Although the name makes the cat sound exotic, it's really just a cat bred to have spots, like its wild cousins. This means its probably got the same personality as any other house cat. >^, ,^<

The Ocicat, like many other hybrid kitties, is wonderful to look at but should be throughly researched before you buy or adopt. Many of these hybridized kitties come with a variety of problems that breeders are not willing, don't know or try to hide, when advertising.
Spraying, emotional and behaviuor problems are just a small sample of what you might encounter. Depending on the amount of "wild" blood, these cats can retain many of the attributes of wilder species. Kidney issues, bladder issues, heart problems etc should all be researched before jumping in. Other breeds like the Bengal have these problems frequently and although breeders will deny this, you only need to google the question about these cats to find owners willing to share their nightmare stories.
I am owned by 9 cats, all of which have some sort of issue medically, the reason we adopted them. We knew full well what we were getting into and are equitped to handle it but many of these came from homes that had no idea what they were getting into and then disposed of these kitties when things did not work out.
I hope that helps, please beware when dealing with exotics that all may not be as it appears.
Blessings to you and yours
