Maltese health?

I'm thinking of getting a maltese and I went to dogbreedinfo.com to check their health problems. I saw that they suffered from quite a lot of problems (skin, respiratory & eye etc.). Is there a very high chance that a maltese will get them or are is it only a minority of maltese which will suffer from these problems?

I agree with the person above...do not support pet stores (you will be much more likely to have health/temperment issues with pet store dogs), and if you are going to get a puppy find a good breeder (this takes research but it will reduce the chance of health problems). That being said anytime you get a puppy its health is a question mark, and usually breeders just offer to replace the dog with a new one if it develops health problems (and it takes a pretty cold person to just trade their dog in for a new one). Usually youll see any health problems it will develop in the first couple of years, so one good way to avoid this is to talk to a rescue or look at petfinder and try to find a 1+ yr old dog. Sometimes breeders have adult dogs for sale also. Good Luck

all pets, especially dogs, can suffer from lots of different health problems, like humans. i wouldnt worry too much about it. if something did happen to the dog, it would most likely be in its old age.

i recommend buying from a breeder as opposed to a pet store. if youre buying directly from a breeder, inquire about the puppys parents, and what, if any, health issues they have.

i agree with the 1st answerer...
i've a maltese, and she is very inteligent & obedient....as long as you feed her right, she should be healthy & happy.
