My purebred maltese has black hairs around her eye!!? |
I recently brought a 6 week Maltese, i've been told she's purebred and even viewed her parents! However she has a collection of black hairs above her left eye. See photo...... Maybe. The only way to be sure you have a pure breed is their papers, which you didn't mention having. It is quite common for pures not to have papers - the owners happened to have pure breeds that mated. But its probably just an irregularity, similar to black spots on the tongue. If the black hairs are the only characteristic inconsistent with breed regulations, then she probably is a pure breed, with a slight appearance flaw. Normally, this would mean she can't be bred or shown, but again, you didn't mention papers, so you couldn't do that anyway. No The word -- and the papers -- are only as good as the breeder. As you've said, I can find no evidence that black-pigmented hair is ever allowed in the breed. From one web site: |
