Maltese Puppies in California, Can you help?

I really would like to get a maltese puppy, and I was wondering if anyone know of any reliable breeders/shelters/adoption agencys in California? And have them avalible?

So I must add this because it seems that everytime I ask a question in the dog section I get lectured and riticuled. I AM LOOKING FOR ONE TO ADOPT. And I want a Maltese and I am allowed to be picky it will be my dog and I will be the one paying for it/ or the adoption fee. And I know about BYB's, thus the reason for me asking my question. I know dogs are alot of reponsiblity and I know that small dogs CAN have health problems, but hey any dog can have health problems. And I know all this is said because you care, i repect that :-)

Good for you for wanting to adopt. Check out www.petfinder.com and search for Maltese with your area zip code. This is the best way to find your perfect match.
But I can help you out a bit here:

This place is GREAT and in Orange County:

If you want to make it easier to find a pure bred dog in California help fight AB 1634 which will basically end all of the better breeders in the state and leave Californians to nothing but strays imported from Mexico and commercially bred dogs brought in to pet stores. Then you will have NO options unless you travel to a state that has not adopted such a measure. As the saying goes... as goes California so goes the nation.

American Veterinary Medical Association Destroys Case for AB 1634
A new American Veterinary Medical Association report disputes claims by AB 1634 supporters that pets should be spayed or neutered for population control reasons, or that spay and neuter is always healthy for pets.
The report finds adverse effects from spay and neuter include increased risks of prostate cancer, bone cancer, bladder cancer, hemangiosarcoma, obesity, diabetes, aggression, ligament rupture, and complications from surgery. After reviewing the risks and benefits associated with spay and neuter of cats and dogs, the report concludes:

Pets should be considered individually, with the understanding that for these pets, population control is a less important concern than is health of each animal.
Veterinarians and owners must consider the benefits and detriments of gonadectomy for each animal.
It behooves us as veterinarians dedicated to the provision of the best possible care for animals to educate clients and evaluate each animal carefully when making recommendations regarding gonadectomy.
That's the latest word from America's leading association of veterinarians. The best interests of the individual patient are what should determine when or whether a pet should be spayed or neutered. This is a medical decision, to be decided by a pet owner in consultation with their veterinarian. One size does not fit all, and should not be mandated by the state.Kustritz MV. Determining the optimal age for gonadectomy of dogs and cats. J American Veterinary Medical Association. 2007 December 1;231(11):1665-75.

Go to akc.org for a breeder listing. You can find the rescue by either searching under malteserescue or search for the breed club that will have a breeder listing as well as rescue info

Who told you that you were being picky about a breed last time? That is just stupid lol... my fiance INSISTED on getting Pomeranian, even though it took us a while to find pure bred Poms... I'm sure your responsible enough, and it's nice that you already know they're a lot of work... The best places to look for pups are in the paper... Not all of them are BYB's.. just call the breeder and ask LOTS of questions.. such as if the parents were both genetically tested, are they willing to take the pup back if it doesn't work out, etc... Also, since you live in California, I know the shelters there are over flowing with dogs.. my Uncle actually owns a dog shelter in San Diego.. so definetly check the shelters!... believe it or not, pure breds DO end up in shelters... it's not all mutts.
