Ever owned a keeshond? |
has anyone ever had a keeshond? if so how was the experience? We have a one year old male Kees, and we love him. We're considering getting a second one. He is very high energy, he absolutely loves to play. He's very friendly to people, and other dogs. He tends to play a little rough, so we have to watch him closely around young children. He doesn't have an agressive bone in his body, so I have no worries that he would bite them. But he has knocked a couple of kids over. It is pretty rare that he's around kids, so if he had more exposure I think he'd be better. Overall, he's a great dog. And everyone he meets comments on how handsome he is. Make sure you are prepared for the grooming needs of a Keeshond. We spend about an hour, once a week, brushing him out. If you don't keep up on it, the undercoat will get matted. I would highly recommend a Kees to anyone looking for an active, mid-sized dog. http://dogbreedinfo.com/keeshond.htm yes i have in fact ive never owned one I have never owned one, but it is an excellent children's companion, lively, intelligent, and very alert. A real character that is quick to learn if their owners are consistent. They should be trained gently and patiently without a lot of jerking. Keeshond are full of personality. When they get excited about something, it is a common trait for them to spin in happy circles. See video clip of excited Keeshond spinning in circles (you may have to wait for the clip to load before you can view the entire clip). They can be trained to perform. Affectionate, friendly, and generally outgoing. The Keeshond loves everyone and needs to be part of the family activities. They are generally good with other pets, although some individuals are reserved or timid, and should be socialized extensively as puppies. For years the Keeshond was the dog-of-all-jobs on Dutch boats. Today it is used as a companion dog. They like to bark and are good watchdogs because of its notable gift for warning of danger. Beware of overfeeding, for the Keeshond will gain weight easily. well, i have a keeshond/sheltie mix, does that count? we own a female keeshond that is about 1 year old. We ablsoultely love her. She is friendly with everyone whether animal or human. She gets along well with our children, our siberian husky and anything else that comes her way. She goes to the groomer and we brush her at home. Very smart and playful. An excellent companion. Most people do not know what she is but ask us if we own the "fuzzzy" dog and then smile. This is a breed of dog that everyone smiles when they see her. She is lively and joyful. We have hd samoyeds in the past and she is as gentle and kind as they were. GREAT DOG!!! |
