Anyone have an Ibizan Hound or know any?

I'm going to get one. I have fallen in love with them :) I finally got to meet 3 of them and they are such sweet dogs. I love hearing things about them. Can anyone give me any tips about the "bad" behaviors and habits of Beezers? Anything that could possibly be considered bad.

Prey drive and being a sighthound.

The have a high prey drive and will chase and potentially kill smaller animals.

Also, they are sighthounds and that needs Special care. ALWAYS on a leash and collar. NEVER allowing them in an unsecured area. Taking EXTRA precautions with them so that they never get loose.

the only thing i have ever had a problem with them is Nails...But thats any dog who isnt use to it...So handle those Feet!!! And a lot of people say their feet smell like popcorn???? have you heard that ?? lol

they've got big egos, are quite independant and stubborn XD
they need lots of long walks per day
they can jump a 5 foot fence standing still and a concern of health is the fact that they can have seizures, then again what can't, :)

I agree with BYB .... Definitely can not let any sighthound off lead outside of a fenced area. Fence should be no less than 6' high since these guys are SUPER athletes. Ive heard its hard to get weight on them and keep it on them... think it has a lot to do with their high metabolism. And being a sighthound, you need to find a vet who knows about the special needs of a sighthound (anesthesia sensitivity). I love this breed too, so good luck. And make sure you do your homework and only support solid, sound reputable breeders!!

They're champion counter surfers. Sweet, lovable, easy to keep, but very talented thieves with a great sense of fun! Beezers keep you on your toes, but they also keep you laughing. My very favorite breed of all time!

i have had Ibizans for over 11 years and the breed is rare, but wonderful. they are the sneakiest dogs and at times they can be difficult to motivate. counter surfing is something all owners experience. And, Ibizans are very slow to mature. they are considered the "Peter Pan" of the dog world because they, "won't grow up". you must have seemingly endless patience and you must be gentle with them...if you can manage these things you are in for the experience of a lifetime!
