How do I tell my mom that I want to sell my horse?

I have had my qhXsaddlebred for a year now. she was my first horse ever. i was a beginner back then, and she was a bit challenging. but now she is too easy for me. i want to advance in show jumping, but she is not good at that. when i bought her, i did not even know about jumping! i had just wanted a beginner friendly horse, now i am ready to move up to a horse for more of an intermediate rider. Plz tell me how im sposed to tell my mom i want to sell her! my mom is fine with her slow poky horse as all she does is trail ride, but my horse is not the competition horse i want! plus she cant jump as she has arthritis in her front right leg :(

Does your mom know that you want to jump and compete? If she does, and she approves, then this will probably be an easy conversation. Just tell her that you love your horse and you are grateful she bought her for you but now it is time for her to teach another rider the basics and you need to move up to a "specialty" horse that can handle the demands of competition. The biggest problem you will run into is going to be financial... Most liekly you will not be able to sell your horse and buy a show horse for the same money - your mom may balk at having to write a large check for a truly competitive mount.

If so, then you may have to lease a horse, make payments on a horse, take a horse with some kind of bad habit (such as a cribber - these horses are usually about 1/2 the price they would be if they didn't crib!) or purchase a green horse. Be sure you work with your instructor to find the best horse to fit your needs and still stay within your mom's budget.

Just talk to your mom and be honest - even if she doesn't agree with you 100% she will probably at least be able to see where you are coming from.

Good Luck!

just tell your mom what you just said in your question. Tell her that you think that your ready to move up. Good luck!

Tell her that you are ready to mve to a more advanced horse and one that can jump. Also that your horse is to easy for you and you can not compete on her. Also tell her what you said in the question. Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tell her now while people are starting to look for horses! it should be easy to find a buyer for a safe horse like yours and you shouldd be able to get a good price. Also, consider a trade for the horse you want, especially from a stable that gives lessons or has a handicapped riding program. Beginner friendly horses are worth gold to parents who are looking for a safe mount for their children. Just tell your mom you think you're ready to move up and you'd like to start looking.

Personaly I would not sell your first ever horse, you are just lucky enough to have a horse that loves you and you love it. If you can afford it you should keep your current horse for trail riding or something like that and just buy another horse for showing. But if you must sell it first of all make SURE it goes to a good home and then just tell your mom that you didn't know what you were doin back then and you need a horse to take you far in competing. I wish you the best of luck and hope you will make the right decision whatever that is! Also, you are welcome to contact me any time you want on this or any subject and I would love to help you!

Tell your mom exactly what you told us; that you feel you need a challenge and you are ready to move up to a more spirited horse. Also give her the reason that you want to compete and you want a jumper, and your horse cannot jump due to medical reasons. Hope this helps!!! Good luck!!!

how many stables have you got? because you could tell your mum i want a horse that will do competitions but then keep your first horse at the same time because it is the worst feeling you will get in your life and that is selling your first horse.

Simply tell her that you're ready to advance in your riding skills but your horse is no longer your proper skill level.

i had a simialr prolbam i have a horse that threw me and i broke my shoulder really bad and about a month after i recovered my cosion found me a knew one and i took alot to convince my dad to get it and it came down to my hold horse was gonna kill me, tell ur mom that you need something that can take you places more of a challange for you to become a better horsewomen hope it helps

Just tell her.Today my horse almost killed me.I got her out to work with her,and she spooked and jumped on top of me.I fell to the ground and she rolled over top of me.She broke some of my ribs. The doctors told me that if she stayed on top of me for 5 more seconds....then she would have crushed my insides and I would have died instantly.I am in the hospital right now and Im drugged up,so i got nothin better to do.

So anyways, I told my mom and dad that I dont want my horse any more...she is giving me too many problems.I dont know if shes broke or not, shes out of control, and Im payin more in her in vet bills than what I payed for her.I wish I never got her.Now i dont care about her and i want to give her away to anyone who wants her.I dont have a horse to ride because all the horses I do have are not broke. The only horse that is broke is lame and cant be rode.I have been lookin for a horse thats broke forever but still i cant find one.I hate the way life works.

COWGIRL UP!!!

i guess you could always leave hints: start reading the classifieds in front of her, 'mum look at this beautiful horse'

you could try not riding when your mums there, so she thinks you've lost intrest, confronting you you could explain how your horse is now boring.

Good luck,

DF
