Has anyone ever owned a rocky mountain horse?

I am very interested in that breed and just saw heard of one a week ago ever. Anyways has anyone ever had any personal experiences with them? How come they arent well known as much? Also what is there temperment or size? Thank you

I've never had any personal experiences with a Rocky Mountain Horse but I do know some information about them. I don't know if they're rare but they're a more uncommon breed I believe.

They originated form Eastern Kentucky. Rocky Mountain Horses are very surefooted and can carry very light to very heavy riders.

Height is usually 14.2 to 16 hh. They're known for their extremley calm, gentle tempermant.

I know they are kind of rare but, I heard they are a good breed of horse.

Here is a bit of info on them--The Rocky Mountain Horse Association Official Web SiteOffers association news, horses for sale, breeders, classifieds, articles of interest, and magazine.

they are rare? I havent heard of that one! there are TONS of breeders etc.

i dont own on my i riden one my exs mom owned 6 rockey mountains and there were wonderful i rode on in a pleasure show and they have a great gate on them. the reason i know there not very well know is because there not really a compition, or a comon show horse, or race horse, in my opion there more of an trail horse if ur into that they name lives up to them there one of the best trail horses ive ever been on but they do make wonderful show horses because of there stance and body they keep a great gate for western pleasure hope this helps u good luck.

One of my neighbor's owns a couple. I feed for them occasionally. They remind me honestly...of quarter horses or morgans...[please don't attack me for that!] They just do. One of the horses is "naturally" gaited...and they worked with other one to get her to do it on cue.

I never asked what they were worth, I just thought the color was cool. Shades of black or brown, and the flaxen mane and tail.

I like them, they are gated and can trail ride for jours on end. you set them in their pase and dont have to stop till you need to camp. my friend has one and its very high energy, ive heard its common for the breed...... they have sweet and loving temperments though, very loyal horses. not rare at all, rescue one, there are plenty, www.petfinder.com

I rode a stallion at a show once. The owner had foals for sale and they were out of this stallion so if you were interested in the foals you could ride the stallion.
He rode so smooth. I had never been on a gaited horse before and I was amazed at how fast they move and how smooth the ride is. They are supposed to be very sure footed and have great stamina.
I liked the look of the horse but was not looking for an unbroke baby.
