Havanese experience? Considering a Havanese we found but don't know much actual experience?

I can read all day long about the breed but want to hear from actual Havanese owners. Good or bad? How tough to housebreak? Does that fur matt easily?

I know, pound dogs are great. Just asking about this purebred right now.

I own a two year old Havanese, and he is the best dog I have ever owned. I lost my Wheaten Terrier of 14 years two years ago and I couldn't bear to be without a dog. He is litter box trained and it was fairly easy to do that because he was paper trained when I got him.

I keep him in a puppy cut, and therefore he doesn't mat that badly, but you do have to brush them and take care of them. If you do it often it doesn't take that much time. Start when they are puppies...they won't mind it so much either!

They are very smart dogs, and that can be good or bad. I keep one eye open for mischievous behavior, but that could just be my dog. I don't mind that kind of behavior, as it certainly makes his personality. Good luck with your decision. I am thrilled with mine!

they are wonderful! I show havanese for friends and am in love with the breed. They are a rough and tumble little dog, not fragil like a lot of toy breeds. I have my name on the waiting list for a pup from the girl I showed last year. Small dogs do take longer to house train, but then the messes are smaller too.
the fur is non allergenic, and can be clipped, advisable for petes. They do mat when changing from puppy to adult coat, but as I said, you can have them clipped, easy to do.

I LOVE THIS BREED!!!!!!!!! I just got a new havanese puppy named cooper. He was house trained in the first month! He learned sit and lay down in 2 minutes! He is so friendly with kids, and other dogs. HE EVEN LIKES CATS! This dog is wonderful. The Havanese has a playful, friendly temperament which is unlike many other toy dog breeds. It is at home with well behaved children and most other pets, and is rarely shy or nervous around new people. Clever and active, they will often solicit attention by performing tricks.
The Havanese is a very people oriented dog. They often have a habit of following their humans around the house, even to the bathroom, but do not tend to be overly possessive of their people, and do not usually suffer aggression or jealousy towards other dogs, other pets or other humans.

The Havanese love children Unlike most toy dogs, who are too delicate and sometimes too nervous or aggressive to tolerate the often clumsy play of children, the Havanese, with care, is a cheerful companion to even younger children, and this is no small part of its growing popularity around the world. This dog is from cuba.
