What are the best utensils for grooming a Flat-coated Retriever?

Don't say go to a groomer. I'm looking to purchase the right brushes to do it myself, as he'll shed very often. Thanks.

Use a soft slicker brush and shedding blade or "furminator". You can buy a #10 blade at Petsmart for 20 bucks and do the "Furminator's" job yourself (the furminator will cost you 80). Ask about or research "carding" and how to do it. There will never be a cure to shedding, but good grooming is a necessity for coat health. Feed your dog good food and his coat will respond.

The best "brush" I have ever used is a curry comb.

I like that "furminator", to bad it costs so much. Can't see spending that much to just do one dog.
Flats are really not a hard dog to do for having a longer coat, but when the 'blow' I think a thinning blade would probably work best (look like a rake with the handle going out to the side)
You can probably guess that I mostly use a striping blade for grooming.
