Retrievers? |
Does anyone own either a flat coated retriever, a lab, or a golden?if you do, are they very hyper and jumpy, or are they sweet and relaxed and calm? i have a four month old golden.........CHEWS EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!, PEES ON EVERYTHING!!!!!!!,VERY HYPER!!!!!!! I personally don't have one,but my neighbor has a golden, and she's very relaxed and calm. My pup was a little hyper for the first three years. And believe me terrible twos also apply to pups. We have three Golden's and a lab, all house dogs. The ones that were more hyper have comed down after a cpl. years old..they are great now very loving and eager to please.. My parents have a lab. She is busy and LIVES to play fetch with a tennis ball. No matter what you are doing outside she will drop the ball in front of you. You and kick it or throw it or what ever she will bring it back. She takes a lot of running time per day. I've personally known both golden and labs. Both are sweet dogs, very smart and easy to train, but like a good bit of exercise. I had a lab, but honestly it depends on the training. Consistancy is the key! i dont personally own one, but i know that golden retrievers are happy lil things as pups, and tend to be much more calm and relaxed as adults. its the best of both worlds, it is the all around favorite dog. you really cant lose. We had a golden lab and she was very calm natured but I suppose like people dogs can differ, good luck , maybe you could try behaviour classes to calm it down. I have 2 labs 1 black and the other chocolate and yes they are really hyper when they are puppies. The Chololate lab called down after he got 2 years old i have a golden lab. when she was a puppy she was soo hyper but still sweet. now she is almost 13 and the sweetest dog ever, although she is still quite hyper somethmes! i own and breed golden retrievers and they are hyper and jumpy, but that is if you let them do those things. none of mine do either of that. i also own a black lab and he does not do any of that either. they will do thoase things if you don't teach them when they are young. teach them manners when they are puppies and they won't jump, pull, but they will stay hyper though because that is how they are unless you put them in field training and use them for field work. but if you just want the,m as the family pet then put them in obiedience training. that will be good for the both of you. good luck A golden puppy and he is the best dog EVER! He is incredibly calm and loves people so much that they are more of an attraction for him more than other dogs. My family and I are training him for pet therapy. Goldens are the best! I have 3 golden retrievers and they are all relaxed and calm. A great breed of dog....I wouldn't own any other!! I tell people that golden retrievers have to be the worst puppies of the dog world. All they want to do is run, play, explore, and be at your side all at the same time. And they do this for 3-4 years, then they mellow and all they want is to be near you and given a pat or a hug. They drive me crazy at times, but, I'm a glutton for punishment. I got another puppy to keep my 8 year old golden company and we're all having a ball. I've had all kinds of dogs in my lifetime, but my last four have been goldens. If you really like dogs (and what is more cute than a golden puppy?), an excellent companion, very intelligent, a golden retriever is the dog for you. By the way, if you can't stand a wild puppy, consider getting a 1-2 year old. Just add food and water, instant great dog! |
