How closely related are flat coat retrievers and goldens?

I'm just wondering because I've noticed that they seem to both look almost exactly alike but just different colors.

They come from different backgrounds and breeding lines but many similar breeds were used in their development.

I think pretty close.

By the way, I asked a qestion about a book I want o write. It is a novel idea. No one has answered yet. Please can you answer it. THe title is : Why are there humans?
