What you have will be fine to start your tank. Protein skimmers are not a REQUIREMENT when starting a salt tank neither is live rock. Although live rock will help your tank mature faster is isn't needed. A fish tank is a tank is a tank. Only those used for reptiles speifically are different. (and most of them are regular fish tanks) Since you know how large your tank is you know not to overpopuate without having the protein skimmer. You will need a test kit. Depending on where you live, a simple salt water, and it has to be for salt water, for a 3 item test can run somewhere around $8-$10. the more you are testing for the higher the price will be for the kit. Later, you can add a protein skimmer, also depending on what type you are looking for and if it can be added to the filter you already have can be as simple as a hose connection. However if you need a different pump, depending on the type and size you are looking at they can run from $10 and UP. However there are backpack filters which include the protein skimmer and are quite dependable and compact for around $75 and up. Although UV Filters are great to have on a tank containing expensive fish they really are not needed. ( I swear by them and wouldn't run my salts without them however) Only my 30 gallon doesn't have a protein skimmer, or UV it has a whisper rear filter on it and has for many many years. It requires a bit more attention than my other salts but that was a tank I received as a gift for my 16th birthday and has been running ever since. Nothing fancy, just dolomite base and dead coral.

Pads for your filter should be changed on a regular basis however. Water changes as well. Your salt and depending on what you are buying from Instant Ocean which will run $19-25 for a 25 pound bag. This should last you for a while.

Just remember to cycle your tank prior to putting your damsels in which you can get anywhere from (and I found them on the net) from $.99 and up. Usually average price is around $2.99 each at the pet stores.

Also, find a pet store that knows their fish. Once you find a store that has knowledge and doesn't try to sell you everything in the store only gives great advice, has quality stock stick with them. There is nothing better for a fish keeper than having a source that is trusted and reliable. This will keep you from headaches later with poor stock and parasites. Ask questions and look at their set up. A store that is reputable will have no quarms about showing you their set up and talking to you about it.

Also, patience. Salt water startup requires more patience than freshwater. However, there are larger rewards in the end especially with a mature healthy tank.

Good luck! and as always, if you have any other issues, repost or email me.

it would not be cheaper just by the stuff and i would say around 150 because im not quite sure how big a 112 liter tank is and what u plan on using. plus maybe another 35-50 for fish and all the works

We got our daughter a salt water tank for Christmas -
it's a lot to get it going and keep it 'ready' for fish. My best advice is go to a pet store (Pet smart for us) and talk to the person who works 'only' in the fish department.
Also they have some good books about salt water fish/tanks and they are helpful -
I think what you have is fine but you may need a better filter.
It's about $50 for the salt - etc - it all depends - I think (we started new) everything ran about $275 for us and we lost a lot of fish before we got it all balanced.
Talk to an expert - and read all you can.. once you get it up and going - and control the sea weed it's nice. :)
