What is the lowest pH a OB peacock cichlid can stand?? |
im going to get about 10 and need to know what is the lowest ph they can live in!! mine is about 7.2 around 6.5 but thats not recommended The question for any fish shouldn't be what can they still survive in. It should be what is idea to make them thrive. OB Peacock cichlids are man made hybrids. They were created in florida going back over 30 generations to get the mbuna lithobates gene into the aulonocara. I think natural fish are far more beautiful and deserve to be preserved and artificial fish shouldn't be supported because it helps eliminate our true species though both of these fish come from Lake Malawi and do best in hard water with a 7.5 ph. I don't recall the hardness off hand though it's an easy search to find out Lake Malawi's conditions. If you water is hard the ph is more likely to stay high though what is most important is consistant clean water with a good maintenance schedule of regular water changes. If your ph is 6.5 or lower and soft water I would get other fish. Matching the fish to your water is much easier than adjusting your water though OB Peacocks have a long line of being captive bred and will be able to acclimate far better than wild fish (which obviously wouldn't be OB Peacocks). |
