Python Clean and Fill and Changing 1/3 water?

Hi again.
Okay. I need to do a 1/3 water change today and I was just wondering. I have a Python Clean and Filler that connects directly to your water faucet and was reading before that someone posted if you top of your tank with tap water it can cause Ick. Well, I have water softeners, etc to treat the water once I put it in. Can I still do a fill with the Python and just treat the water immediately??

You can still use tap water to top off your aquarium, just add your dechhlorinator to the tank as you fill. the water temp doesn't have to be exact just within a few degrees. Certain fish need the water to drop 4-5 Degrees in order for them to span. This stimulates rain showers which causes tropical streams to cool slightly. Ick is caused by poor water conditions. I have never had fish develop ick after a water change this way and have only had it occur on one occasion after introducing new fish to the tank. Advice with the python. Instead of running the water to start the siphon, just put the discharge end to a basement floor drain and use gravity to siphon.

I wouldn't do a 30% water change unless you're having water quality problems. 20% would be the max so you don't upset the bacteria balance too much. Smaller changes more often are better than large changes. Tap water won't cause ich but straight tap water will contain chlorine and chloramines that need to be removed. You might be better to treat the water separately and then add it to the tank rather than directly from the tap.
