How can i stop aggression in my two year old springer spaniel cross?

she has shown signs of agression since being six months when an older dog tried to meet her, this resulted in babe(my dog) attacking it, i ve had babe spade and have tried many things she only seems to calm down when whereing a mussle but i worry about her not being able to breath when shes running around and if i dont let her off on the field i feel cruel but ive tried dog theropy and its not worked that well the only thing thats changed is that babe will now allow other dogs to meet her in my home

the allowing dogs to meet her in my home was suggested by the dog theropist and ive tried to roll her on her side but she just fights it and will not submit

from your question it sounds like the agression is towards other dogs and not people. It also sounds like the agression is fear based, since it started after she had been attacked. I am not an agression expert. Getting how to advice when dealing with agression from anyone but an animal behaviorist or someone who specializes in agression is not wise. No one here can see the dogs body language, or observe the dog doing the behaviors that trigger the agression. While I would love to help you, this is not the place to get good advice on this subject.

ask your vet if there is anyone in your area that holds classes for agressive dogs to assist in training and mangement. This much I can tell you, you can not change the dogs basic personality, but you can teach it some self control and hopefully desensitize it to some extent. but you will have to manage the dog for its safety and other dogs safety the rest of its life. I can get better, but it will never be totally extinguished.

a muzzle will not effect breathing if fitted properly

Kick it in the face.

It's never a good idea to let other dogs inside your dogs territory. You must let the dogs meet on neutral ground before bringing them into your dogs space. Let them meet several times before considering it. Dogs have personalities just as people do. Some dogs just simply do not lose aggressiveness no matter what you do. They are who they are, and in many ways you can't always change that. Now, another question is...has your dog been distempered? By that I mean has your local vet injected your dog with the distemper vaccine? Check and see, if so, then you're probably stuck with an aggressive dog, otherwise, I may have found a possible solution to your problem.

when she exhibts these behaviors, you need to put the dog on her side and make her lay there till she is calm. You should bring the other dog over to her, while she is submissive. this shows her that she is not boss. you are, and you will not tolerate aggression. its not cruel, and it doesnt harm the dog. but you need to be leader and show that you are.do not ever hit the dog. this only makes her fear you and she will become aggressive to you too. and you should socialize your dog with other dogs. slowly at first. on walks, walk like you mean it, and give her the energy that you are assertive and in charge. if u meet another dog, let her sniff the dog. if she shows aggression, a slight correction will do. do not tense up if you see another dog. this will send her the energy that that other dog is bad. you need to correct her each time she starts to show aggression. correct means, a no no with authority. never hit a dog! my dog started growling out of the blue one day. it took a few times of gentle correcting and placing him on his side, but he learned that is not tolerated. and he doesnt do it anymore. you shouldnt let it escalate to this point, its much harder to break the habit.

i believe you have entered the learning phase w/your dog now its time to move on to correction. Your dog knows what it must do but refuses, so I suggest taking total control over everything in your dogs life. Where and when it can eat sleep play. all toys are your toys and he only may have them when you give them and always take them away when you are tired of playing. play tug of war only one time and win, and i mean really win! do not even let this dog sleep in your room, if he currently is. only pick situations for correction where you can win. you need to allow this dog nothing. he goes in crate and comes out to potty eat and play when you say. the only person to have contact w/ this dog is you. do this until you are the center of his universe. if he does not eat when and in the time limit allowed it gets taken away..get the idea? you must set aside time daily for training with a choke collar. walk the dog he gets aggressive take away his air quickly. fast tug release pop it. if you take his air away for a very short time he will learn who is boss. if this does not work i suggest a shock/training collar. you can adjust the levels of shock and they come with a DVD. It is time for tough love. It sounds awful, but if you really want the aggression to stop you should do this. This is only if your dog is aggressive and just not in pray drive.
