Why does my dog yelp whenever he tries to move or when I touch his lowerback? |
this has happened before, about 3 years ago and he recovered over a couple days, but the vet never knew why it happened. all of a sudden he won't move or get up because his lower back hurts. he cries in pain if we try to help him or we touch his back. he shivers, and he won't go to the bathroom. he is a vegetarian, because he gets a rash whenever he eats meat. he is a fish and potato diet and loves vegetables and fruit. he is usually hyper and eager to go outside or have a ball thrown. Definitely get a second opinion* This is probably not related to what happened three years ago! Your dog is obviously in severe distress and for his comfort and your peace of mind you must find out what is happening* get another vet opinion. Sounds like he has some sort of spinal issue could he have arthritis i would take him back to the vet and have xrays done if that doesnt give you the answer than it could just be arthristis i hope i was some help He needs to go to the vet. He may have a serious back injury. Don't assume it was like it was last time. It may be a new and different injury and he is now older, so arthritis may be an issue - which can be treated effectively. Your dog most likely has his spine out of place or possibly he has calcium deposits somewhere along his neck and/or spine. If you take him to a vet qualified to do chiropractic and acupuncture, they can very, very easily treat him and he'll be pain free. I've taken all 3 of my greys in for various problems when they were in pain and these vets are awesome! Could it be hip dysplasia? Please take him to the vet again, if he still can't find out what it is, perhaps try another vet. Good luck. He re-injured a previous injury, or he has arthritis now in his old injury spot. Why don't you take him to the vet and get him treated, or at least get something for the pain, so he isn't suffering. And quit touching his lower back if it hurts him. A different vets opinion will be helpful. You might try putting your dog on a joint supplement. Your dog could also need chiropractic work as well because he could have a pinched nerve in his spine. Ex-rays and flex tests are probably the best bet to determine your situation. For the mean time you can give him half of an asprin with his food to ease the pain. Do not give it to him without food in his stomach. Do not make this a ongoing thing. It is ok to give dogs aspirin (NEVER IBUPROFEN!) once in a while but don't over do it. Also do not do this the day you take him to the vet because the vet might not be able to determine what is wrong if he doesn't show signs of discomfort. Maybe server arthritis. My mother dog would do that, the next day would be fine. Get a vets opinion, perhaps he can prescribe some meds to give to the dog while he is like this. With the symptoms you describe he either getting muscle soreness when going on walks or disc/vertebral problem. You didn't mention if he is otherwise active. If he is my suggestion of the problem is the same. As our pets get older and are active the begin or can be predisposed to vertebral problems and should get strict rest and reduced activity as well as medical intervention at times. There are products you can give your dog to make him feel better. Some are medications your vet can prescribe others are supplements you can give when you feed him (joint and bone supplements) Your dog probably has either arthritis or a spinal injury. I think you should see another vet for their opinion. This may be serious. Your poor dog might have a problem with the bone in his back so i would try to be gentle and see a different vet. |
