Canaan Dog Breed?

My family is interested in acquiring a Canaan Dog. Does anyone have an knowledge about the breed concerning how compatibility they are with cats and other dogs, and how they do home alone. Also, where I can get one from a reputable breeder in New England? Help please!

And i also know for a fact that there are at least 3 Canaan dog breeders in NE recommended by the official canaan dog club. :-)

The AKC has breeder listing on their website. Before you get one spend the day with one. Contact the Canaan Dog Rescue group and talk to experienced dog owner. What may be a good dog for one lifestyle may not fit with another.
Canaan dogs are listed as Pariah dogs. Dogs in this family usually require a more experienced owner. Start slow and learn about the breed before you get one.

These dogs are very , very aggressive and are not for a family at all. They need alot of training and obedience training. They are very big dogs also.
They do NOT get along with other animals because of their domance issues. Pick another breed if you want a big family dog.
These dogs are for experienced dog handlers and trainers.
I live in New England and we have NO breeders on the East coast of these dogs.
If they are they are not sanctioned by the breeders association.

they are very predatory they do good with bigger kids and large dogs but not cats small dogs or small kids

I don't know who said that they are generally good with other animals, but that is simply untrue----UNLESS the owners have EXTENSIVELY socialized them.

These dogs are NOT naturally friendly with other strange animals and some lines are very dog-aggressive. A well bred dog that you intensively socialize is another story.

Here is the site of a breeder in Rhode Island. Please read the pros and cons section of their site thoroughly.

Good luck!
