Basset hound head shaking?

are 1.5 year old basset hound has been shaking his head side to side really fast. and he dose it every once in a while, we rescued him from the pound like 6 months ago and he had been atacked by a coyote and tossed in the pound . do you think that could have some thing to do with it like some kind of trama thing? (please no mean answers.)
thanks for your advice!

its not like a shaking of the ears thing he has been checked and he dose not have an ear infection. its like if you grabed him by the muzzle and shook him side to side , thats how it shakes.

What you are describing sounds like what one of my girls did a couple of times. A short time later she started having grand mal epileptic seizures, and I believe that the head shaking episodes were mini seizures.

Consult with your vet.

take it to the doctor

possibly ear infection. call your vet, they can give him medicine.

He could have ear mites, fleas or an ear infection. Take him to the vet. Medication will give your hound dog relief!

More than likely it is his ears. Basset hounds are very prone to ear infections because there ears don't get any air because there ears hang down. If a coyote tossed him in a pond, not a pound, then it is ever more likely because water could have caused a fungus infection. He needs to be seen by a Vet.

Oh the poor dog!

Bassets having long floppy ears do tend to get ear infections easily. I have her checked to see if she has one. Shaking the head is usually a good sign that there's something going on in the ear's.

It could be fleas or an ear infection, which basset's are prone to. Also, could be ear mites, but on the other hand, I have a basset/lab mix, and she doesn't have any of these problems, and she shakes her head back and forth like that too, mostly when she's excited or when she first wakes up, so maybe it's just a basset quirk. Good luck, I had a basset growing up and she was a great dog (I don't remember if she did the head shake thing).

Lots of dogs with floppy ears get ear infections really easy. Take him to the vet and have him checked out. Its possible it could have something to do with the attack but its more than likely-hopefully--an ear infection. Our lab gets them all the time and will constantly shake her head because it bothers her. See the vet and fine out.

he has ear lice that could be the problem

Take it to the vet to check it out to make sure that there is no head injuries.

If it is a ear problem temp fix is over the counter dog ear drops from WalMart. My beagle does that too, but I make sure her ears are clean I use a tissue to wipe out wax and that makes her feel better.

Your dog either has an ear infection, lots of wax build up or ear mites. You can try and clean the eras out yourself with either peroxide or an ear wash solution that you can get from your vet or pet store. Put the stuff on ear massage and then wipe out with cotton balls. You can also use q-tips but be careful how far you stick it in the ear canal. You can also get an over the counter ear mite killer from a pet store or a prescribed one from your vet. If the ear has an odor to it, it means he has an infection. My dog gets build up all the time so we have to clean his ear once aweek. I really don't think this anything to do with the coyote incident.

Will your dog let you inspect the ear/ ear's. Is it the ears that's the problem. If you can inspect both ear's without him giving you a hard time then the ear's a not the problem. If he dose not let you inspect the ear's then that's probably the problem. It could be a neuralgic problem also. My dog has a problem with one ear. She won't even let the vet check her ear. She doesn't have an infection. She is just overly sensitive with the one ear. The vet tells me that there is no problem with it other then sensitivity. Go to the vet. Be prepared. The vet may want to do a brain scan, and that could get expensive.
