Basset Hound:: 8 wks old:: Sick:: (please answer!!)?

I have an 8 WEEK OLD puppy that was a gift from my friend. I have only had HER for a few days. She is a young BASSET HOUND and I have only recently became aware that she is sick.

First off, I know that the people my friend got her from were liars. A small cut upon her FOREHEAD, hidden by her fur when we received her, was reffered to as nothing but a small cat scratch from their house cat before purchase. However, with time it revealed itself to be a horribly, and very deep gash that bone was even visible through. I do not know if that is the cause of the problem, however, for it is slowly but surely healing up.

However, her appetite is very poor. I fear that she does not eat properly and possibly it could be affecting her.

When she uses the 'potty' her stool is sometimes nothing but blood. Her previous owner claimed she just received her 1st shots and just been wormed also. The 1st night we assumed it was from the worming but we soon realize it is not.

What could be wrong?

GET HER TO THE VET ASAP!!!!!!!!!

It is very likely parvo. Get her to an emergency vet if your vet is not open. Waiting even a few hours could mean the difference between life and death for her. This WILL NOT go away on its own and it is fatal if left untreated. She needs the full set of vacs before you can be relatively sure she will not get parvo but even with those they sometimes do get it. No vaccine is 100% unfortunately. Here a site with more information for you to read LATER. For now, get her to any vet that is open!

take her to the vet immediately! could be parvo or worse

Get her to a vet IMMEDIATELY!!! do not wait... it actually sounds to me like Parvo.... which can be fatal....

and please come back and let us know she is ok...

good luck..and good vibes on the way.

I adore bassets and own three...hearing that breaks my heart. Any basset who as a poor appetite MUST be sick. Take her to the vet.

Wow.
What horrible breeders!
Puppy mill perhaps?

Vet immediatly!

i am not sure what is wrong but you really need to take her to vet straight away, blood in her stools can be a sign that something is really wrong. are you sure that she was wormed cause this could also be the problem and also flea her because flea infestation on such a young dog could kill them. you should also have paper work for her first injection, ask them for it because you may need it in the future, good luck and i hope she is better soon

She has parvo. It is treatable, but I think the odds are like 70% against survival, and its very expensive. Get your money back from the breeder, or report them

GO TO THE VET NOW, YOUR dog is more then likely in pain and needs meds now!!!!Basset's have sensitive stomachs so you need help from a vet on the type of food. Also the dog may have wroms which can be trested if taken to the vet, why let the poor dog go all this time without going to the vet< Call One NOW!!!!!!

Sounds like a case of parvo....

You may be able to fix the dog, but it will most likely be very expensive. Or worse you may have to put it to sleep. Such a shame. Bassets are some of the best dogs ever, you would have had a great friend.

It definitely sounds like your baby is sick, it could be Parvo but a puppy with Parvo usually deteriorates very quickly and it's fatal if left untreated. Actually no cure for Parvo but it can be managed with IV fluids and lots of care if caught early enough. You must see a veterinarian though as whatever is causing the problem needs to be treated asap. Puppies are actually pretty tough little creatures but they absolutely MUST have all their shots and be wormed on a regular basis. It sounds as though the breeder you got her from was less than honest and didn't care about the health of her puppies, sadly that's not terribly uncommon. It pays to know how to identify these breeders before you buy but that won't help now so take her to your veterinarian as soon as possible.

Good luck, I hope she doesn't have Parvo and that she is on the road to recovery soon.

It sounds to me like your dog has parvo. It could be deadly unless it is treated early. Blood in the stool or all bloody stool is not normal. I work at a vet and the signs are usually..the dog is lethargic and throwing up alot. dehydrated and diarrhea. I sure hope you dog doesn't have parvo but i would get it to a vet as soon as you can.
