Basset Hound feeding concerns? |
A friend recently gave us his Basset Hound and I have been reading about the best care for them. I have run across a cpl websites that say that you should not feed table scraps, that feeding table scraps will cause bloat and could cause death. Is this true because my in-laws are always feeding him scraps even when I ask them not to. And also they feed him a lot of table scraps that have a large amount of garlic and onions. And give him all the fatty drippings off the meat can this harm him also. NO, he should not look like that! My mom raises basset hounds and they should be fat puppies, well hers always are. They should look like healthy chunky puppies and no scraps wont hurt these dogs but you should wait till he is older and you should take him to the vet and have him checked out just in case. My vet always tells me that Vienna sausage(not sure how to spell it) or SPAM is good for dogs to put weight on them cause it is full of fat. My dog was sick and he lost so much weight and after he got better he wouldn't gain no weight so my vet told us to feed him the Vienna sausage and spam and he gained all his weight back in like a month. Then we went back to feeding his regular food and every now and then we will mix some of the spam or sausage in his food and his weight stays the same, but you should try talking to your vet just to be sure. |
