Basenji owners or anyone who knows anything about them? HELP!!?

I got a Basenji friday. He's a show dog going on 8 months old. He's a sweet dog but he is very overprotective of me. He growls at my mom dad and brother and even bit my dad. He attacked my two cats but when it comes to me he's loving. Or if I'm not home he's fine with my family. What can I do about this?

And also when I'm home he will NEVER ever leave me alone. I want him to love me and follow me but he doesnt really let anyone else play with him or pet him. I cant play with my cats without him jumping on me to try to get all my attention. Is this normal?

I've been seriously thinking. Because the breeder gave me the dog on a trial basis and the dog isnt mine until I sign the contract tonight. I love this dog but I'm wondering if its the best choice for my family. I'm scared if we have guest over that he'll attack! Whats ur opinion?

Talk to the breeder but DO NOT sign the contract until you are 100% sure this is the dog for you.

This is why it's a TRIAL, it's possible that this dog is not a match for your family. If it's not a match, do not hesitate to return the dog before you get too attached to each other. If he is from a good breeder you don't have to worry about returning him, she'll want what's best for him.

Talk to the breeder... at great length. This is NOT an acceptable behavior.

well yuor fisrt mistake was getting a dog from a breeder. If you are not 100% ready to take care of this dog, do not sign the contract/
