Akita (Female Dog) Guarding Ability compared with an Akita Dog?

This is a genuine question. I already own an Akita Dog.
I would like to hear from anyone who already owns an Akita female dog. What is there guarding ability like. How does it differ from a dogs. Do you find them more alert etc. Do you have any stories about Akita's guarding the home or you etc.

I have owned a female in the past and now own a male. Neither one would hurt a person, but they both would bark at strangers that came around the house. I haven't noticed a difference based on the sex.

As for a story, 8 years ago we went to visit family with out newborn son. We took our akita with us. We ended up staying with a brother at his place. We slept downstairs. Early in the morning, my brother came downstairs to get something to drink and our akita chased him back up the stairs howling and barking at him. So, she was protecting our son, even though it wasn't "her" house.

I have 2 Akitas. My youngest one is 8 years old and she is not a guard dog at all. She loves everyone, very loving. My oldest is 11 years old, and she really isn't much of a guard dog either. Her bark scares people. She is very protective of me, when a guy is around, she stays between the man and myself. I love the breed, my oldest is my baby.

After my daughter was attacked and bitten in the face by an akita female dog, I don't think you should trust them at all. The female has bitten 5 different people and the male has 4. What does that tell you about akitas? It tells me they should all die! They both belong to my girls in-laws, and they refuse to have them put down.

Whatever breed you choose, male or female, make sure that YOU and your dog are trained. Akita's are bred to hunt, are generally aggressive towards other dogs and very protective of their people. Loving with children and others in the "pack".
I have 2 males and they worked together to protect me when someone tried to break into my house. I was recovering from surgery, my husband was out of town. One stayed with me while the other went to check it out. As soon as the one with me knew I was awake and alert, he joined his brother and they gave that would be intruder the scare of a lifetime.
These dogs are not for first time dog owners, nor are they for people who are not willing to put in the time and effort to train them. They are willful and very smart.
Good luck to you.
