My Abyssinian cat is loosing his teeth what can i do?

he is 2 years old

Hi there...it's may likely be due to periodontal problems. Infection may still be remaining in the gum tissue and and should be examined by a vet to be treated with necessary medication such as antibiotics. Teeth cleaning may be considered if the other teeth are affected, however without being able to see your kitty only a vet can best determine if this is necessary.

Depending on the severity of possible infection it is best to arrange an appointment soon. Infection can lead to other health problems which goes without saying...take him to a vet as soon as you have made an appointment.

An alternative diet may be suggested to help your cat maintain his nutritional needs without further injuring him as well.

how old is it?

ask your vet he might be able to set her up with false teeth

Take him to the vet.

go to a vet for the poor thing!

If it's a kitten , nothing. If it's not , see a vet.

if the cat is a kitten they grow adult teeth like us, ir it's an older cat it may have some medical promblems that are causing a calicum deficentcy. take your cat to the vet for treatment and a referral to a veterian dentist to find out what the cause of the problem is.

I also have had problems with my Aby's teeth, typical for this breed. We have had cleanings and extractions performed which involve sedation. My female had a "hypoxic moment" (lack of oxygen) during her sedation which left her temporarily blind.
We thought we would loose her but she bounced back after some oxygen therapy, and with a sweeter disposition :)
This is why I would recommend brushing rather than vet cleaning.

let me guess you haven't been brushing them! brush your cats teeth at least every week

If you got your cat from a breeder I would certainly consult them on the teeth issue. I have heard that it is a problem with that particular breed (who have so much else going for them).

A cat can do just fine without teeth. I would certainly use a canned meat diet or even a raw meat one using ground meat.
I do that for my cats and use a supplement powder to supply the calcium and a salmon oil capsule, one cap per pound of meat.
You can go to the Yahoo group Holisicat and get good information on feeding raw.

You have to be extra careful when using ground meat. I get my chicken and turkey from a small market where they grind only a few times a week and are scrupulous about cleaning the grinders. No packaged ground meat ever. I wouldn't even get it a Trader Joe's though I shop there for other things.
